Little League Lineup Card with Defense by Inning

Free printable Little League lineup card with the defense by inning. Type your batting order and starting positions, and print one coach’s sheet with every player’s position in each inning, plus the bench. It is the easiest way to rotate kids fairly through the infield, the outfield and the bench, and to show parents the plan before the first pitch.

How to plan a youth baseball lineup

  1. Batting order: most youth leagues bat the whole roster in a continuous batting order, so every player bats in turn. List them all, 10 to 15 rows.
  2. Starting positions: add a position after each name (12 Liam CF). It is pre-filled in the first inning column.
  3. Fill in innings 2 to 6: write each player’s position in every inning, or BN when they sit. Plan the rotation so nobody sits two innings in a row and every player gets time in the infield.
  4. Check the rules: many leagues require a minimum number of defensive innings for every player and limit pitch counts. Write the pitchers available at the bottom.
  5. Print two copies: one for the dugout and one for the assistant coach or the scorekeeper.

Fair playing time tips

  • Rotate the bench first: list who sits each inning, then fill the positions around them.
  • Give every player at least one inning in the infield over the game or over two games.
  • Keep the catcher in the same spot for several innings; changing catchers takes time with the gear.
  • Save the sheet: the plan from last game helps you balance the next one.
