Volleyball Rotation Sheet Maker (5-1, 6-2, 4-2)

Make a volleyball rotation sheet in a minute: free, no sign-up. Pick your system (5-1, 6-2 or 4-2), type your six starters in serving order and add a libero if you use one. You get all six rotations drawn on the court, with the setter, the server and the front and back row in every rotation. Print it for the bench, save it as an image for the team chat or leave the names empty for a blank rotation sheet.

How to use the rotation sheet maker

  1. Choose the system. 5-1 (one setter), 6-2 (two setters, the back-row setter sets) or 4-2 (two setters, the front-row setter sets). Pick No system if you only need the serving order.
  2. Enter the players in serving order. The labels show the standard order for each system: setter, outside, middle, opposite (or second setter), outside, middle. Opposite pairs end up across the court from each other automatically.
  3. Pick the first server for the set. Everyone else follows in order.
  4. Add the libero (optional). She replaces the middle blockers in back-row zones 5 and 6.
  5. Print or share. Print rotation sheet gives you one page with all six rotations and the line-up order; Save image sends it to your phone’s photos or straight to the team chat.

Volleyball rotations by system

Each system has its own page with the six rotations as a table, how the setters move and a ready-made sheet:

How volleyball rotations work

The court has six zones. Looking at the net from your own side, the front row is zone 4 (left), 3 (middle) and 2 (right), and the back row is zone 5, 6 and 1. The player in zone 1, at the back right, serves. Every time your team wins the serve back from the other team (a side-out), all six players rotate one zone clockwise: 2 goes to 1, 1 to 6, 6 to 5, 5 to 4, 4 to 3 and 3 to 2.

The order on the line-up sheet (I to VI) is the serving order, and it can’t change during a set except through legal substitutions. When the ball is served, each player must be in the right position relative to her neighbors (the overlap rule). Once the ball is contacted on the serve, players can move anywhere, which is why setters and hitters switch to their real positions right after the serve.

Tips for coaches

  • Hand-in slips for the scorer: print the volleyball lineup sheet with your serving order pre-filled.
  • Keeping score too? Print a volleyball score sheet with both rosters already filled in.
  • Print two copies: one for the bench and one to fill in the line-up sheet you hand to the scorer before each set.
  • Start the set in the rotation where your best server serves first, or where your strongest hitters are in the front row.
  • Make one sheet per set if you change the starting rotation, and title each one (“vs Eagles, Set 2”).
  • Planning a tournament day? Build the pool schedule with the round robin generator and the playoffs with the bracket generator.

Frequently asked questions

What is a volleyball rotation sheet?

A one-page chart with the six rotations of your starting line-up, showing where every player stands and who serves in each one. Coaches use it on the bench and players use it to learn their positions.

Can I print a blank volleyball rotation sheet?

Yes. Leave the names empty and print: each court shows the role (S, OH, MB, OPP) in every zone, ready to fill in by hand.

Which rotation system should my team use?

Younger and recreational teams usually start with a 4-2, teams with two good setters often play a 6-2, and most competitive club, high school and college teams run a 5-1.

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no app and no limit. Your last sheet is saved on your device.
