The formula is n × (n − 1) ÷ 2. For nine teams that’s 9 × 8 ÷ 2 = 36 games. Each team plays 8 of them. A double round robin (everyone plays everyone twice, home and away) doubles that to 72 games and 16 games per team.

Byes in a 9-team round robin

How long does a 9-team round robin take?
It depends on game length and how many courts or fields you have. With 30-minute games on one court, 36 games take about 18 h 00 min. A round robin guarantees every team 8 games, which is why it’s popular for leagues, pickleball socials and pool play. If you’re short on time, a knockout bracket needs only 8 games for nine teams.
